Ben Roethlisberger
Ben Roethlisberger holds every major passing record at Miami University and a number of passing records in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) despite playing just three years before joining the NFL.
Roethlisberger was taken 11th overall in the 2004 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. As a rookie, he went 13-0 in the regular season (14-1 including playoffs) as a starting quarterback, helping the Steelers become the first AFC team to have 15 wins in a single season. On January 5, 2005 Roethlisberger was unanimously selected as the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, the first quarterback in 34 years to be so honored.
In 2005, Roethlisberger led the Steelers on a run, winning three straight games on the road, on his way to a victory in Super Bowl XL.
In the first game of the 2007 season, Big Ben reached a personal milestone: his first career 4-touchdown game in a 34-7 rout of the Cleveland Browns. In Week 9 against the Baltimore Ravens, Roethlisberger threw for a career-high five touchdowns. All five touchdowns were thrown in the first half, making Roethlisberger one of two quarterbacks in the 2007 season to accomplish such a feat. During the 2008 season, Roethlisberger lead the Steelers to a 12-4 record on his way to a Super Bowl XLIII victory, his second Super Bowl win in four seasons.
Ben completed a comeback season as he led the Steelers to his 3rd Super Bowl during the 2010-11 campaign. Despite coming up just a few points short, that doesn’t discount the phenomenal year Ben accomplished despite facing all kinds of adversity. With knee, nose, and shoulder injuries looming, Ben was still able to compile 3,200 passing yards and 17 touchdown passes. In the 2011 playoffs, he was able to throw for over 600 yards and complete 4 touchdowns, including 2 in the Super Bowl against the Green Bay Packers. During the 2011 season, Roethlisberger threw for over 3,500 yards for the third time in his career on his way to leading the Steelers to the playoffs for the sixth time during his eight years in Pittsburgh.
Ben is also active in the community as a founder of the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation, which seeks to provide support for police and fire departments throughout the US with a particular emphasis on service dogs and to enhance the quality of life for residents of Findlay , OH and Pittsburgh , PA.
Camp Director Rod Huber
Rod Huber returned in 2010 for his 11th season as the College of Mount St. Joseph’s head coach. Huber, who directed the team’s defense in 2007-08, has 27 years of coaching at the high school and college level and has been on the Mount football staff since the program’s inception in 1990. Coach Huber led the program to a three straight HCAC championship (2004-2006), and the Lions 9-2 overall mark last season was their eighth straight season of a .500 or better record. The Lions claimed the 2009 HCAC championship with a 7-0 mark, their fourth HCAC title in program history, which enabled them to qualify to the NCAA Division III playoffs, marking their fifth overall appearances in the post-season tournament. The Mount is also the only team in HCAC history to record three straight conference titles. In addition, Huber was named HCAC Coach of the Year last fall, his third such honor.
Huber has over 25 years of coaching at the high school and college level and has been on the Mount football staff since the program’s inception in 1990. Prior to becoming the third head coach in Lions’ football history in 2000, Huber was a defensive position coach and spent four years as the Lions’ defensive coordinator. He also coached the College’s wrestling program for four seasons. During the 1999-2000 season the team garnered Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament and NCAA Division III Midwest Regional championships. Huber was named conference and regional Coach of the Year that season.
Upon graduation from high school, he entered the U.S. Army where he played football and spent time in Germany and the U.S. After leaving the Army, Huber enrolled at the University of Cincinnati where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in social studies education in 1988. He began his coaching career at Lloyd Memorial High School ( Kentucky ) in 1982, moved on to Glen Este for one season (1986) and later coached outside linebackers at C.A.P.E. High School (1987-1988). Coach Huber is an active member in the Southwest Ohio Football Coaches Association (SWOFCA), the American Football Coaches Association and is a member of the Jason Taylor Foundation. Coach Huber has directed youth football camps for many pro athletes including Adrian Peterson, Jason Taylor, Chris Johnson, and Reggie Bush.
