Dwight Howard

Foregoing college, Dwight Howard opted into the 2004 NBA Draft and would be selected first overall by the Orlando Magic. In his first season, Dwight Howard had a season high of 29 points on March 16 against the Los Angeles Clippers. He finished the season with an average of 12 points a game and 10 rebounds per game, becoming one of only a few rookies (and the youngest ever) in NBA history to average a double-double. He is the youngest player in the NBA to average 10 rebounds. In addition, Dwight Howard grabbed 20 rebounds in three games, becoming the youngest NBA player ever to record at least 20 rebounds. He became the only player to start every game after making the leap from prep to pro. Dwight Howard was selected to play in the 2005 NBA Got Milk? Rookie Challenge, and was also unanimously selected to the All-NBA Rookie First Team.

On November 15, 2005, in a home game at the TD Waterhouse Centre in Orlando, Florida against the Charlotte Bobcats, Dwight Howard scored 21 points and 20 rebounds, becoming the youngest player ever to score 20 or more points and 20 or more rebounds.

Dwight Howard played high school basketball at Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy, a private academy with one of the best high school basketball programs. He was awarded a number of accolades in high school, including 2003-04 Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

In the season of 2004-05, Dwight was selected to play in the Rookie Game during All-Star weekend. During this season, Dwight was the youngest person to get a double-double in a season. For the 05-06 season, he managed to break another record and was the youngest player to get 1,000th career rebound.

Howard's 06-07 season started his chain of All-Star game selections. He was voted to the All-Star game for the first time. He was also player of the month in November and averaged 17.6 points, 12.3 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game.

During 07-08, Dwight was selected to the All-Star game for the second time in a row. He was also the winner of the Slam Dunk contest. Along with the U.S.A. Olympic basketball team, Dwight received a gold medal for the 2008 Olympics. In the 08-09 season, Dwight was yet again named to the All-Star team for the third year in a row and the Defensive Player of the Year for the first time.

To continue with his honors, during the 2010-2011 Howard was named to the NBA All-Star game for the fifth year in the row. He was also voted Defensive Player of the Year for the third straight season, making him the first player ever in NBA history to accomplish that award in consecutive seasons. He is coming off of his best season where he averaged 22.9 points, 14.1 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per game.

Testimonials

  • Thank you for such a wonderful camp experience for my children and for me, as well! My children enjoyed learning the techniques and walked away giggling each day about Dwight's comedy with the campers. I stayed with my kids for all three days and was so entertained by the way that Dwight and the coaches worked with the kids. They were so organized and warm-hearted with all of the campers. This camp was worth every penny!!! . We are very happy with the skills our kids learned and hope to return next year! He made them very happy!!! Please thank him for me and my husband for encouraging them to read!
  • I was very impressed as to how much time Dwight Howard spent at the camp and interacting with the kids. Dwight absolutely made the difference. He seemed to spend time with almost every kid and was interactive and fun. Dwight spent a significant amount of his valuable time interacting with all of the kids and for me that was unexpected as a first time participant. My son was able to actually play some basketball with Dwight Howard. This experience cannot be matched and made it very enjoyable.
