Reds Hall of Fame Mission

Our core purpose is to record, preserve and promote the rich history and traditions of the Cincinnati Reds, honor on-field accomplishments and achievements, and create an everlasting memorial to baseball and the Cincinnati Reds.  And, to maintain a first-class facility where, through various dramatic educational exhibits, exciting initiatives, and special events, ensure that noteworthy contributions to the Reds are properly recognized while inspiring and empowering new generations to achieve and perform to their highest potential.

Jay Bruce

Cincinnati Reds star outfielder Jay Bruce was born on April 3, 1987 in Beaumont, Texas. He played high school baseball at West Brook High School and was a canidate as the nation's top prospect. In 2005, he entered the Major league baseball draft, where he was selected 12th overall by the Cincinnati Reds. Jay quickly climbed the ranks within the Reds organization and by 2007 he was dominating at the Triple-A level, earning Baseball Americas player of the year title as well as the Minor League Player of the Year Award.

Jay made his highly anticipated major league debut as a Cincinnati Red on May 27th, 2008. After going 3-3 with two singles, a double, recording his first stolen base, and driving in two runs, Jay would soon become one of the fans favorite in Cincinnati. Jay is coming off of his best season with the team in 2011. Jay hit 32 balls out of Great American Ballpark, drove in 97 runs, and made his first ever MLB All-Star appearance. In 2010, Jay led the team to their first post-season appearance in 15 seasons by hitting a Walk-Off Homerun in the bottom of the 9th inning against the Houston Astros on September 28th, 2010! The Reds would clinch the NL Central and Jay Bruce would go down in the history books for making the 2010 play of the year in Major League Baseball!

Jay is currently the 3rd youngest player to hit his 100th homerun at age 24 and with many of his accomplishments on the field, Jay has even more to bring to the table off the field. Jay is very involved with the community and continues to be a role model for the younger kids that look up to him. We can all learn something from Jay Bruce, and we hope that his success continues on and off of the field!

Tracy Smith

A four-year letterwinner from 1985 through 1988, Smith was a shortstop, third baseman and pitcher for the RedHawks. In 1988, Smith spent three seasons as a minor league pitcher and infielder in the Chicago Cubs' organization from 1988-1990. Smith began his coaching career in 1990 as head coach at the Miami University-Middletown campus. During the 1993 and 1994 seasons, Smith was an assistant coach at Miami. Over that span, Smith served as hitting instructor and worked with infielders and outfielders before heading to Bloomington. Tracy Smith is in his fifth season as Indiana baseball's head coach. In 2009, he led the Hoosiers to their first Big Ten Tournament title since 1996 and the second NCAA Tournament appearance in school history. In his four years at the helm of the Hoosiers, IU is 104-126.

In 13 years as a head coach, Smith has a career record of 421-346-1 (.549). The 2009 campaign was the culmination of Smith's first four years in Bloomington, as Indiana dominated the Big Ten Tournament to win its first conference title in 13 years. During the regular season, IU finished with a 16-7 (.696) record in conference play to post its highest Big Ten winning percentage since 1939 (7-3, .700). Following the team's NCAA Tournament appearance, the Hoosiers became the only team in the nation to have three players taken in the top 50 of the MLB Draft.

The 2000 Ohio College Coach of the Year, Smith directed that season's squad to its first MAC Tournament Championship since 1983. The RedHawks also went on to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1983, playing in the Arizona State Regional, where they notched a victory over Creighton.

Testimonials

  • I would like to say that I thought everything was well-organized. I also was very impressed with the coaches and how they related to the players. I had many chances to observe interactions between coaches and players, and not once did I see or hear anything negative. The coaches were very patient and caring, and as a parent this was wonderful to see! We look forward to returning next summer.
