Philip Rivers

Pro Bowl quarterback for the San Diego Chargers, Philip Rivers was born on December 8, 1981 in Decatur, Alabama. He played his college ball at North Carolina State where he led the Wolf Pack to three bowl victories, while taking home four MVP awards. After his senior season, Rivers was drafted 4th overall by the New York Giants in the 2004 NFL Draft. His rights were then traded to the San Diego Chargers before ever taking a snap for New York.

In 2006, Rivers’ first season as the Chargers full-time starter, he threw for over 3,300 yards and 22 TD’s as the Chargers had the best record in the AFC at 14-2. He went on to represent the AFC in the 2007 Pro Bowl game in Hawaii. During the 2007 season the Chargers once again found their groove finishing 11–5 and winning the AFC West for the second straight year. The Chargers also won their first two playoff games since the 1994 season, beating the Tennessee Titans and the Indianapolis Colts before falling to the Patriots in the AFC Championship Game. In 2008, Rivers had the highest quarterback rating in the NFL with a league leading 34 Touchdown passes, 105.5 Passer Rating, and a league best 8.4 yards per pass attempt. On December 28, 2008, Rivers set the Chargers team record for touchdown passes in a season with his 34th! Thus far in 2009 Rivers is on pace to set personal records for attempts, completions, completion percentage, yards, and quarterback rating.

Philip had a career season in 2010 by leading the entire NFL in passing yards as he racked up 4,710 yards in the 2010 season. He nearly average 300 yards per game and was able to connect for 30 touchdowns and 357 completions on the year. For his performance in the 2010 season, he was selected as the starting Quarterback for the AFC in the annual Pro Bowl in Hawaii. In the game, he led all passers with 192 yards and 2 touchdown passes. Philip would not stop there, the following year in 2011 he would throw for 4,624 passing yards and 27 touchdowns. He has now thrown for over 24,000 yards for his career and 163 touchdowns.

Off the field, Philip and his wife Tiffany launched the Rivers of Hope Foundation in April of 2010. The goal of their foundation is to help children of San Diego in need find permanent homes. They aid in the finding of adoptive families and provide financial assistance to support adoption for the children.

Camp Director Rob Huber

Rod Huber returned in 2010 for his 11th season as the College of Mount St. Joseph’s head coach. Huber, who directed the team’s defense in 2007-08, has 27 years of coaching at the high school and college level and has been on the Mount football staff since the program’s inception in 1990.

Coach Huber led the program to a three straight HCAC championship (2004-2006), and the Lions 9-2 overall mark last season was their eighth straight season of a .500 or better record. The Lions claimed the 2009 HCAC championship with a 7-0 mark, their fourth HCAC title in program history, which enabled them to qualify to the NCAA Division III playoffs, marking their fifth overall appearances in the post-season tournament. The Mount is also the only team in HCAC history to record three straight conference titles. In addition, Huber was named HCAC Coach of the Year last fall, his third such honor.

Huber has over 25 years of coaching at the high school and college level and has been on the Mount football staff since the program’s inception in 1990. Prior to becoming the third head coach in Lions’ football history in 2000, Huber was a defensive position coach and spent four years as the Lions’ defensive coordinator. He also coached the College’s wrestling program for four seasons. During the 1999-2000 season the team garnered Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament and NCAA Division III Midwest Regional championships. Huber was named conference and regional Coach of the Year that season.

Upon graduation from high school, he entered the U.S. Army where he played football and spent time in Germany and the U.S. After leaving the Army, Huber enrolled at the University of Cincinnati where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in social studies education in 1988. He began his coaching career at Lloyd Memorial High School ( Kentucky ) in 1982, moved on to Glen Este for one season (1986) and later coached outside linebackers at C.A.P.E. High School (1987-1988).

Coach Huber is an active member in the Southwest Ohio Football Coaches Association (SWOFCA), the American Football Coaches Association and is a member of the Jason Taylor Foundation. Coach Huber has directed youth football camps for many pro athletes including Adrian Peterson, Jason Taylor, Chris Johnson, and Reggie Bush.

Testimonials

  • I was impressed by how engaged Philip was during the ENTIRE camp, not just at the beginning and the end, like several other professional athletes I've experienced. Thank you for putting on such a well executed camp. I am looking forward to sending Michael again next year. My younger son will be there the year following. David Bick, Camper Father
