San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey was born on March 27, 1987 in Leesburg, Georgia. He played college baseball at Florida State University. Coming out of high school, Posey was drafted in the 50th round of the 2005 Draft but chose to attend college. He attended Lee County High School in Leesburg where he was named the Georgia Gatorade Player of the Year, the Louisville Slugger State Player of the Year, an EA Sports All-American, and Baseball America All-American. He graduated high school fourth in his class of 302 students with a 3.94 GPA.
In 2005, Posey joined the Seminoles and played shortstop as a freshman. As a true freshman, Buster played in all 65 games. That year, he was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American with a batting average of .346 and 48 RBIs. The next year he moved to catcher and finished second in the Johnny Bench Award voting while batting a .382. During his junior year, Buster had a tremendous season as he hit .463 with 26 home runs and 93 RBIs. He went on to win the Johnny Bench Award that year as well as garnering the Collegiate Baseball Player of the Year award.
Posey, considered one of the best catchers in the 2008 Draft, was selected fifth overall by the San Francisco Giants. He was called up to the majors in May of 2010 and was named National League Rookie of the Year. To add to his success, Posey went on to win his first World Series in 2010 in which he caught every inning. After returning from an injury that occurred in 2011, he had a very special year during the 2012 season. Posey went on to win multiple awards such as the NL MVP, NL Hank Aaron Award, Silver Slugger Award, NL Comeback Player of the Year, Willie Mac Award and NL Batting Champion. He ended that spectacular season by winning his second World Series.
