Patrick Willis, linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers since 2007, has quickly become known as one of the best inside linebackers in the National Football League today.  Willis is currently the only player to have earned Pro Bowl honors in each of their first five seasons as a San Francisco 49'er. During his rookie year, Willis led the NFL by more than 30 tackles with a total of 174.  In 2008, he had 141 stops and was ranked second in the NFL, and in 2010, he was ranked ninth in the NFL with 128 tackles.  His 2011 highlights, include: awarded NFC Defensive Player of the Week for week 5, received his first sack of the season during his game against Colt McCoy and the Cleveland Browns, and obtained his first interception of the season (and fifth of his career) during the game against Arizona in November.  Patrick Willis has also received numerous awards and honors during 2011, including: USA Football All-Fundamentals Team, Mid-Season All-Pro by ESPN’s John Clayton, AP First-Team All-Pro, and the NFC 2012 Pro Bowl.

Born on January 25, 1985 in Bruceton, Tennessee, Willis became a high school athlete star at Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central High School.  He was named a two-time All-State player, Regional Most Valuable Player, and West Tennessee Player of the Year.  Willis earned four letters in football and basketball and three letters in baseball at Hollow-Rock.  He was the first person in the history of the state of Tennessee to be nominated for both the Mr. Football award for a lineman and the Mr. Football Award for a back in the same season.  As a senior, he chose to play at Ole Miss after he was listed as the number 60 linebacker prospect for the class of 2003.  As a freshman at Ole Miss, Willis received the Scholar-Athlete Award from the National Football Foundation and as a sophomore, he had 70 tackles and led the team with 11 TFLs and five sacks.  Willis led the SEC in total tackles during his junior year and finished the season with 128 total tackles, three sacks, one interception, and two forced fumbles.  Most notable, during Willis’ last collegiate year in 2006, he was awarded SEC Defensive Player of the Year, and was the winner of the Jack Lambert Award and the Dick Butkus Award, given to the best linebacker in college football.  At the 2007 NFL Combine, Willis was recorded as one of the fastest among linebackers and a standout during the draft.  The San Francisco 49ers selected Patrick Willis as the 11th overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, where he signed a five-year contract.  Recently, he was given a five-year contract extension, which will keep him with San Francisco through 2016.
